Hotelgears and Cloud Computing
Believe it or not, you can manage your hotel in the cloud with Hotelgears. Hotelgears combines over 15 years of cloud-based property management systems
knowledge with 13 years of web-based technology experience to
bring you the best-of-breed technology on the web — Cloud Computing. Unlike our competitors where web-based applications
are a new challenge, our path to Cloud Computing was a natural step in progression; providing you with property management in the cloud.
Hotelgears is accessible in two styles - hosted and on-premise. Generally, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) applications are considered to be hosted.
This means the system is located on servers within an Internet cloud (known as Cloud Computing). Our hosted services are called Manual and Automactic,
and requires no software installed on your computer system. Also, you won't have to purchase or maintain servers or backups,
and you can take advantage of power savings. Due to our redundant datacenters, you will experience 99% uptime from Hotelgears.
Hotelgears provides industry-standard data center security protocols to protect your data including firewalls, network monitoring, etc.
You can manage access and security permissions by assigning users to computer roles, network roles, user roles and business rules. Plus, our enhanced
security model SecurePoint provides secure access protection by only allowing trusted computers or networks to access your information.
This prevents unwanted computers and users from using Gearco's Cloud to access your information.
“Cloud computing... is a style of computing where IT-related capabilities are provided ‘as a service,’ allowing users to access technology-enabled services ‘in the cloud’
without knowledge of, expertise with or control over the technology infrastructure that supports them.”

Benefits of Cloud Computing
IBM considers cloud computing to be a cost-efficient model for provisioning
processes, applications and services while making IT management simpler and
increasing business responsiveness. In a cost-benefit analysis, a properly implemented
and leveraged cloud computing model will drive lower cost-of-ownership,
responsive delivery of services and higher service quality. Cloud computing enables rapid business innovation by delivering easy-to-use computing services to
users “on demand,” regardless of their location or the type of device they are using.
The cloud-based service can be “public,” “private” or a combination of the two,
sometimes referred to as a “hybrid cloud.”
Selecting the right use of cloud computing results in a lower cost by taking advantage
of economies of scale and automated IT operations while optimizing investment in
existing infrastructure. The resulting solution rapidly adjusts the volume of users as
workload increases or decreases. Payment or internal charge back for the services is
more flexible and typically occurs on a usage basis.
Cloud Computing and the Green Effect
Cloud Computing reduces the impact on our environment. Regarding energy consumption, we use fewer computers (drastically reducing cooling needs) and consume about 80% less server power than our competitors. And with virtualization (multiple servers in one), we use even fewer physical
resources, so the “embedded energy” of the hardware is even less!
